THE PERFECT STORM meets THE FIRM.

Reap the Wind is a thrilling action/adventure novel that follows three lawyers as they embark on a treacherous journey from Houston to Cincinnati during a catastrophic hurricane. Josh Goldberg is on a mission to be with his girlfriend for the birth of their child. Along the way, they'll face terrifying obstacles like tornadoes, hailstorms, and driving rain. But the real danger may come from within as they struggle to survive each other's company. His two travel companions—his best friend, a drug-addicted lawyer, and his conniving boss who has her own agenda.

Don't miss out on this unforgettable odyssey that might just be a suicide trip.

PRAISE FOR REAP THE WIND:

"Reap the Wind is a bold, bracing and blisteringly original take on the legal thriller form. Joel Burcat has fashioned a seminal tale focusing on the nightmare of all road trips in which a storm raging outside the car is matched only by the storm raging within. Burcat dares to tread on the hallowed ground of John Grisham and Scott Turow and ends up blazing a fresh, daring literary tale of his own. Not to be missed!"
—Jon Land, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author

My Review

Reap the Wind is essentially a stormy roadtrip story. An environmental lawyer needs to make it to his pregnant fiance, all while a strange storm hinders his progress. Facing a hurricane, intense winds, hail, and more, the main character has a lot just to cross from Houston, Texas to Cincinnati, Ohio. His traveling companions are making his journey even more perilous and strange - though they're also helping on occasion.

Nobody in this novel is quite where they are supposed to be. Not in life, not in terms of location, and it makes for an entertaining blend of misadventure. I was particularly fond of the storm elements. I enjoy stories about storm and weather issues, like Twister and Day After Tomorrow, so I found this to be an interesting read. On that note, I definitely would have liked some more details and weather events. I've made the trip from Texas to Arkansas to Nashville and definitely was thinking back to those long drives while reading. Inclement weather would've made it ridiculous.

This book blends two primary POVs. Josh, the environmental lawyer, is written from a first-person perspective. His fiance, Keisha, is written in a third-person perspective. This made it easy for me to keep both characters separate. It made them easily distinct from one another. Initially, it was a strange shift that threw me off, but the more I read, the more I enjoyed it and felt it was the best way to deliver this story.

I thought the charcters were an interesting mix. Some I disliked more than others - but I was supposed to dislike them. There are some not great people here and they make the journey even more perilous and strange. They have their roles to play and do them well. By the end of the book, I wasn't too surprised about where everything ended up. I thought it managed to wrap things up decently well. There are some moments where I would've like a bit more detail or development, but I enjoyed the book nonetheless.

Overall, Reap the Wind was an enjoyable read for me. It was different than a lot of books I've been reading recently, which made it fresh. I enjoyed having a new roadtrip story with an extra element of danger. I was entertained by the different characters. All in all, I give Reap the Wind a Lone Star rating of ✯✯✯ stars.
