A supernatural horror thriller for readers of Chuck Palahniuk (Lullaby and Haunted: A Novel), Marisha Pessl,(Night Film), and Scarlett Thomas (The End of Mr. Y), The Last Book You’ll Ever Read tells the terrifying story of a woman who knows the horrific truth about the past – and future - of humankind, and, when captured in her book SATYR, it becomes the catalyst for worldwide, mind-numbing violence.
Read this book at your own peril.
Olivia Kade wrote the book that ended the world. Now she needs someone who
won't read it.
Civilization is a lie. Hidden deep in our genes is the truth. And it is slowly
clawing its way to the surface. Olivia Kade knows the truth, and she has become
the prophet of the coming collapse. Her book, SATYR, is an
international bestseller, and it is being blamed for acts of senseless violence
and bloodshed all over the world. Olivia's own life is in danger from those who
have read her work. Determined to conduct a book tour, she hires security
professional Connor Wilson to act as her bodyguard. She only has one
requirement: he cannot read her work.
John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness meets Chuck
Palahniuk’s Lullaby in this terrifyingly dangerous tale
of the descent of humankind where reality and fantasy collide.
Collects the entire smash 8-issue series.

MY REVIEW:
The Last Book You'll Ever Read is a mature comic. VERY mature. Graphic sexual content, language, and graphic violence type of mature. If those things bother you, definitely do not read this comic.
This comic begins as a story about a book that seemingly makes people violent after they read it. The book's author is on a book tour. Very quickly, the story turns into an examination of the duality of humanity and the power of interpretation. The art is occasionally deceptively bright, though darker palettes swiftly ebb and flow to match the story's events.
If you're looking for a book with a concrete ending - this isn't the book for you. If you're looking for a book with a "happy ending" or lots of "sunshine" - this DEFINITELY isn't that book. This book isn't a book I would recommend to just anyone. This comic is for comic readers who can handle mature imagery, don't mind being thrown into a story that goes in a lot of directions without truly wrapping up, and who get a kick out of philosophizing about human nature through the graphic novel medium.
This is a rather serious book, layered under zombie-style mob attacks as fictional author Olivia presses forth on a bizarre book tour. I came into the comic thinking it was about books and left realizing it was about far, far more - and far, far less. It's complex, yet simple. It's deeply disturbing, while also coming off as bizarre horror fare. With October around the corner, I've been feeling like getting into the Halloween mood a bit. This definitely lends a hand in that. However, it's not a traditional horror story, either.
The Last Book You'll Ever Read is a complex, bizarre story that will initially leave you scratching your head wondering what happened...before making you really think about all the layers that made the story reach the point it did. It doesn't make sense, yet many of its questions do. It raises TONS of questions, without providing any specific answers - leaving them up to the reader. It borrows from horror imagery, but delivers a different kind of fright than readers may expect. I give The Last Book You'll Ever Read a Lone Star rating of ✯✯✯.
Again, it absolutely isn't for everyone, but I can see it being a good source of conversation and discussion about humanity, civilization, and interpretation. Avid comic fans and lovers of darker stories will love it.
