My Review
The Aurora Revelations is a thrilling and humorous book that presents a spooky story involving aliens and a group of ragtag heroes. This felt like a blend of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with X-Files, presenting a relatively serious story in a very comedic manner. I chuckled several times and had a good time with it. The opening was just eerie enough to set a great tone, leading to many enjoyable evenings of reading. I'm a big fan of science fiction and of the X-Files, so this was definitely up my alley.
I really enjoyed the cast of characters. I wasn't sure what to expect from the mix, but I could readily recognize everyone and see their role. The blend of horror creep and sci-fi thrill was well balanced, feeling eerie, but spacey and isolated, yet interconnected. I also really enjoyed the settings. I'm a sucker for road trip stories, making this one an extra fun treat for me especially.
I give The Aurora Revelations a Lone Star rating of ✯✯✯✯ stars. It's funny and exciting, making it a perfect blend of adventure and paranormal thrill ride. I definitely recommend it to X-Files fans who are willing to have a more light-hearted approach to the show's stories. This is like an adult middle ground between The X-Files and Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders.
